Monte Oz January 19, 2014 Entertainment Comments Off

mettThursday 16 January 2014-METRO FM, the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) largest commercial radio station, today announced the nominees for the 13th METRO FM Music Awards.

The awards which will be hosted by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Provincial Government, City Of Durban and BP South Africa, will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Conference Centre (ICC), in Durban on the 01st of March 2014.

METRO FM Station Manager, Mr. Martin Vilakazi said “We are excited by the calibre of finalists for this year’s edition of the awards, which will also be celebrating and recognizing musicians who have contributed to the growth of the industry since the dawn of democracy 20 years ago. We urge the public to vote vigorously if they want their favourite musician or group to walk away with a coveted METRO FM Music Award trophy”. This year the famous trophyhas been given a make-over that embraces the look and feel, and revolution of the METRO FM Music Awards.

Mr. Vilakazi stated that “This was achieved by retaining the sand cast texture of the aluminium on one side of the trophy, to contrast with smoothed and polished front.  By bringing a variety of texture to the trophy we make an allusion to the different music types that this award showcases.”  “It also suggests how raw melodies and lyrics are crafted into a polished result for audience appreciation” concluded Mr. Vilakazi.

The theme for the awards will be celebrating 20 years of our democracy as a country through music.

As the countdown to one of the biggest music awards ceremony in the country begins, the station can assure its valuable audiences a world class production & entertainment and the most amazing music celebration the country has seen.  With the award season upon us internationally, METRO FM prides itself that it is playing in this space, and itcan comfortably declare that it can compete with the best in the global arena.

The 13th METRO FM Music Awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1, at 8pm.

For the first time we will have a public viewing area where our listeners will get to be very much part of the celebration where they will be watching the event unfold on massive screens at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
