The annual VUKANI! FASHION AWARDS is back to celebrate its 18th year with a glamorous seven-day fashion extravaganza.
The project, hosted by SAFDA in partnership with the Ekurhuleni municipality, targets emerging, gifted designers that have the artistic ability to incorporate the spirit of our African cultures, histories and traditions into a modern wardrobe. It is aimed at providing them with a platform to showcase their creations and talents.
It also offers seminars, forums and workshops during the expo, which cover everything from the clothing and textile industries, to access finance for SMMEs.
15 Finalists will unveil their artistic interpretation of the SA’s political situation – transformation, transparency and democracy – working around this year’s “Evolution as independent country” theme. Their designs will capture the moods and emotions of the 1994 to 2012 era, reflecting the energy and militancy of South Africans.
The finalists will be battling it out for Best Overall Collection, Most Innovative Design and High Fashion quality.
The awards boasts a prestigious guest list that includes media, high-profile corporate executives, government officials, celebrities and advertising executives, and has had participants from as far afield as Cameroon.
